About Bridges of Wisconsin

In the late 70’s and early 80’s, there was a move to “deinstitutionalize” long term care facilities, in other words, care began to move away from the prison like setting of long term care facilities. While the concept was great, the health care providers at the time basically moved people to homes yet kept the prison like feeling for those getting cared for; the walls had changed yet everything else stayed the same. People were basically “warehoused” in smaller buildings; very little had changed for the people getting cared for.

Scott McCardell Saw the Opportunity for True Change in Long Term Care

Not satisfied with the status quo, Scott and Kathleen McCardell could see how long term healthcare should and could truly be different, truly be about improving the lives of people in their care through normal living. Human beings are not meant to be caged up; people are meant to live in community with one another.
Beginning in 1993, Scott set out to realize the true dream of natural care, creating home like environments for those with long term health needs. Scott created environments so people felt safe, valued, and part of the community. From the beginning, the McCardell family sees their work as an extension of their Christian faith as they minister to a part of the local community that is often ignored.

After decades of providing care in Washington County, Bridges of Wisconsin runs several homes and also helps some people in their own homes live their life to the fullest possible. While we are long term health providers, we really feel we are freedom providers, helping people feel like they have the freedom to enjoy life and do what they want to the extent their disability allows.

After More than 3 Decades Providing Long Term Care…

Today, with over 100 employees and more than 10 dedicated long term care homes in Washington County, our staff sees the difference in people’s lives. The people in our care are set free from the institutional shackles long term care normally brings. We like to come alongside clients, celebrate their successes, and see the joy in their eyes as we restore dignity, give respect, and provide quality personalized care to their lives.

Bridges is still family run so we can make decisions in the best interest of clients and employees without regard to profits. We are debt free and decades old, so you have no fear we will disappear like so many other startup healthcare operations. We are also focused on care in only a small part of Wisconsin so we can ensure everyone gets they quality care they deserve.

Bridges of Wisconsin has a long tradition of care. We are glad to serve our local community for the benefit of clients and their families. Contact us today to learn more about Bridges of Wisconsin.
